The Z/28 is not a hellcat. I wish people would quit treating it like one.

I feel bad that the 600 hp number disappoints me. Not only is is less powerful (and heavier) than the old GT500 Mustang, it's just given up against the Hellcat and whatever variant of the Z06 motor will go in the next Camaro. But at least it might sounds more like a Ferrari, right?

n/a is what everyone is saying and it'd have to hit 7k+ to make that kind of power so probably yes on the flat plane (is what I'm thinking)

Same. Hellcat is the answer to the ZL-1 and GT 500 which, face it, are straight-line warriors more so than the Z/28.

Flat-plane in an American car is so weird, but I want more. Next Corvette? Make it happen, GM!

one of the reasons I'm so successful on oppo is because I follow good reporter practices, one of which is protect your sources. Normally I couldn't tell you but I'll make an exception this one time... it's your mom. Just kidding, I had to watch a really annoying episode of fast lane daily and they said "multiple reliable sources" have "confirmed".

Haven't people been saying it's going to use tons of CF and other lightweight stuff to be track capable? And the gt500s weighed at least 3800lbs so it's probably not going to be that heavy. Im super curious to see how much that platform can diet. My hope is CF, magnesium, titanium, and no amenities. Would be cool to be around 3000lbs like some stripped out svt cobras running around.

People have been saying all kinds of shit about this car. I doubt Ford is about to drop a Z/28 fighter though, boulevard cruisers make more money than track cars. It would be a miracle if they save over 800 lbs of weight.

I think this is actually going to be the new gt350 track day machine to compete against the Z/28 where the GT500 is about stupid numbers and competes with the ZR1 and logic.

The z28 only exists to clear out remaining ls7 inventory. Its truly sad that GM couldnt keep the c6z relevant enough to sell the rest of these motors in the platform they were designed for.

After 8 model years, the C7 couldn't come fast enough. It's not about keeping the C6Z relevant, it's about keeping the LS7 relevant.

I have no proof, but I'm not the only one to think it. If you look at the C6Z production numbers you will see a sudden and HUGE volume drop from 2009+. People say the they had a surplus of engines and thats why the valve drop issue(look it up) persisted for so long.

I was much happier when the ls7 was a special motor in one special car. This dilutes the ls7. I would have rather seen it end up in the SS sedan.

one can only hope. I keep thinking how cool it would be if they went all CF, magnesium, and titanium and threw a transaxle in there.

But it's not going to have torque if it's a screamer of an engine so it logically follows that car should be light. Besides an engine like that is probably crazy expensive (as close as you can get to a race engine while being drivable) so it would also make sense to put it in an expensive body too.
CRider

You can't tell me the Z/28 isn't a special car with a straight face. It's at least as much of a track car as the Z06, so the LS7's mission as a track car motor was never diluted.
CRider
> 1337HPMustang

I think Ford can make a screamer and still give it enough torque, the Boss 302 proved that. What I don't know is how much they plan on charging for the GT350, because you're right, this motor is going to be a really expensive piece. But with the new Mustang GT weighing in around what the old GT500 did, how much weight can they save without going deep into the car's chassis? A hundred pounds, maybe? The Camaro Z/28 only saves about 35 lbs over the Camaro SS 1LE according to MT, and that thing is stripped.

I can honestly say that the car does nothing for me. I cant argue that its not special tho, as that is an opinion. Its rare and desirably equipped, no denying that.

Exactly, I don't care what the horsepower is on a Z/28 or on any other track focused muscle car. Even though I'm a GM fanboy I really liked the Boss302 and I have high hopes for a track focused Mustang. Competition drives us or some other corporate PR BS, whatever gets me more Z/28s

One source said they put a massive vibration damper on the crank to smooth out the lack of NVH with the flat plane crank.
I'm strangely excited by a Mustang that sounds like a Ferrari.

The z28 only weighs 35 over the 1LE because they remove sound dampening, lots of it. And the 1LE does not have anything to make it lighter. Just some performance/aesthetic changes.

I'll forgive the extra weight on this particular model if it does in fact make power even close to this.
I'l also be in the market if it looks like that!

The Z/28 weighs 35 LBS LESS than the 1LE, and it's supposed to be a stripped out lightweight car. But it's not really any lighter than the regular SS Camaro.

Holy smokes I didn't know but the b0ss 302 revved up to 7400 and it only made 444 hp. This new 5.2 engine is going to be a beast to make that 600 hp. I can't even think a naturally aspirated car that makes more power that isn't a v12 powered hypercar.
